Careers Education

One of the five underpinning elements to the delivery of Saxmundham Free Schools vision is ‘Pathways’. The name of this programme very clearly links the work of the school – in terms of CEIAG – to the Trust’s overarching vision to raise the aspirations of students. This aspiration starts with the PEP and the PEP photograph which displays the student’s choice of career to aim for throughout their time at school.

During their time at Saxmundham Free School, students will take part in a wide variety of careers and work related activities. In Key Stage 3, students are encouraged to explore different careers using a variety of methods including visits to local post 16 providers and employers and attending various presentations. In Key Stage 4, students will be expected to demonstrate efficient and practical career planning skills along with an understanding of post 16 options that are available to them locally and nationwide. They will take part in mock interviews, workshops and external events which are designed to assist with raising aspirations and providing impartial careers information and advice to allow them to make informed decisions regarding post 16, Higher Education and future Career pathways. All students in Year 10 and 11 have the opportunity to receive 1-1 careers guidance with a specialist careers advisor.

Students will:

• Develop their understanding of themselves in relation to future learning and employment opportunities.
• Learn and experience careers and the world of work.
• Develop their career management and employability skills.
